2016 Shale Network Workshop and Continuing Ed Credits, May 19-20

The 2016 Shale Network Workshop will take place at the Atherton Hotel in State College, PA, on May 19th - 20th. This year, the theme is "Science and cooperation around water quality data and legacy wells in shale gas basins."

The tentative agenda and workshop details are available at: http://www.shalenetwork.org/content/2016-shale-network-workshop-0

The Shale Network is a collaborative effort between Penn State, Pitt, Dickinson and the Consortium of Universities for the Advancement of Hydrologic Sciences Inc. (CUAHSI) to collect and analyze data on water quality in the Marcellus Shale drilling region. The workshop will provide an opportunity for nonscientists, researchers, experts, government officials, and members of the gas and environmental industries to compare lessons learned about water issues within the northeastern region of shale gas development.

For educators, Act 48 credits will be available as described here: http://www.shalenetwork.org/content/continuing-professional-education-cr...

High School teachers can now earn continuing education credits for participating in the Shale Network Workshop. The number of credits teachers will be eligible to receive is contingent on participation in various events during the workshop. For a tentative agenda, please visit the workshop’s webpage: http://www.shalenetwork.org/content/2016-shale-network-workshop-0

Teachers can receive 1 credit for attending a field trip to an orphaned/abandoned well site, another 2 credits for taking part in a computer lab/hands-on learning experience, and 2 credits for attending a poster session. All of these events are scheduled for May 19. Another 6.5 credits can be earned by attending the entire workshop on May 20. If you are interested in receiving credits, please register for the workshop and under the additional comments field, indicate which sessions you will attend.

There is $10 fee for processing the credits, and checks can be made payable to Penn State. Visit the website for complete information.
