New Type I-a Supernova Just Discovered

A white dwarf supernova was just discovered in the nearby starburst galaxy M82. Details are still coming in, but this will be an excellent chance to study this type of system up-close, plus it may come within visual range of your backyard telescope.

PAESTA member and Penn State astronomer Chris Palma encourages everyone to read this early report online, with images and animation found on the Huffington Post UK site.  We will keep members updates on what Chris promises to be "a pretty big news story in astronomy over the next few months."
