PAESTA Annual Conference Presenter Form

PAESTA 2012 Annual Conference

Penn State Brandywine, Media, PA

Session proposals are being accepted for 20-minute or 60-minute oral presentations during the Choice Workshops on Saturday, October 13.  Speakers are asked to contribute abstracts for consideration to one of the five different presentation tracks:

Technology – We seek examples of how technology has been intergrated in the classroom to enhance instruction and student learning.  Sessions may include and are not limited to the use of Google Earth, Google Docs, Diigo, and online scientific data.

Fieldwork – We encourage presenters to make use of the campus grounds to conduct their presentations outdoors on activities appropriate with students.  Examples include and are not limited to a cemetery investigation, measuring elevation change to generate topographic profiles, and geocaching.  The campus also has a stream that runs through the property that is accessible.

Across Disciplines – We are looking for examples of how Earth and space science teachers have connected and collaborated on classroom exercises with teachers in other disciplines, such as math, writing, and art.

Professional Development – We seek presentations that assist teachers in finding opportunities for professional development, such as venues for presenting and publishing curricular innovations, and overall strategies for self-promotion.

Science Updates (Tectonics, Astronomy, Energy) – Separate from the presentations on pedagogical approaches and science instruction, these presentations seek brief updates on the latest discoveries and investigations relating to volcanoes, earthquakes, planetary formation, alternative energy sources, etc.

Presentations CANNOT include the use of an open flame, animals, microorganisms, biohazards, projectiles, or radioactive substances.  Sinks and water are not available in any of the presentation rooms.

All presenters must be members of PAESTA (Membership Form).

The deadline for submissions is August 31, 2012.
